MIMS RADIO
A broadcast dedicated to music, MIMS Radio did not focus on any particular genre or style. “If we love it, we talk about it,” was the guiding force behind the show. Listeners had the chance to hear from international artists on what inspires them to create music. Exclusive performances, stories from the music industry, and plenty of throwbacks to genre-defining classics were also part of every broadcast.
An author and performer born in Djibouti, Shay Lia invites you into her universe of rhythm, sensuality and mystery through her music. She began receiving attention after the release of the Soundcloud single "Virgo," produced by OVO signee Stwo. But it was with the release of "Leave Me Alone," that she wrote for Kaytranada’s debut 99.9% album released on XL Recordings, that she burst onto the scene in 2016.
In 2017, Shay Lia made her solo debut with the release of "Blue," a timeless soul/R’n’B ballad produced by both BADBADNOTGOOD and Kaytranada. i-D, BET France, Beats 1 and BBC Radio noticed her because of this track. The same year, she performed at Coachella and AfroPunk—both being her first performances ever. In 2018, she went on her first mini tour of Europe and performed in London at the Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, hosted by BBC 1Xtra trendsetter Jamz Supernova. In early 2019, she released a couple more songs alongside her usual collaborators: KAYTRANADA for “Chances” and STWO for “Feels." All this led to the release of her debut EP called Dangerous and a tour in Europe with Omar Apollo.
Shay Lia released a new single with Michael Brun, "Baby Who," and released her EP Solaris in 2020. Since her MIMS Radio visit, she's been getting lost in press review and recognition.
