A look into the inner workings of the residences through the eyes of its artists
In this video, Honeydrip and Pyne reflect on their time at the PHI North residency. Together, they approached this creative retreat as a mentoring space to develop new facets of their art through knowledge sharing. Their performances reveal the artistic practices they each dived deeper into during their two-week residency together.
Each year, the PHI North residency for Quebec musicians welcomes artists for two-week creative retreats in a riverfront loft in the Laurentian Mountains. This residency offers an opportunity to produce, explore, and experiment in a fully immersive, intimate, and peaceful setting within a nature-based recording studio.
We wanted to immortalize these moments by allowing the artists to share their feelings and discoveries. A journey to the heart of the residences through their eyes.

ABOUT HONEYDRIP AND PYNE
This duo of producers came together for the first time during the PHI North residency.
Honeydrip (She/Her) has been a notable name in the Montreal underground electronic scene for almost a decade. Having built her reputation in the burgeoning rave scene, she is now a revered bass music producer, DJ, and sound system builder. Her practice is heavily inspired by dub, reggae, and dancehall, which she hybridizes and explores to create futuristic bass music.
PYNE (She/Her) is the alluring solo venture from Caribbean-Canadian music artist and researcher Alanna Stuart (Bonjay, Queer Songbook Orchestra). PYNE is in the thick of what she dubs a ‘Femmehall’ practice: a feminine approach to dancehall production. Over the course of her shapeshifting music career, she’s opened for Etta James, The Bug and Little Dragon, remixed Diplo and produced Jamaican music legends Sly & Robbie, and collaborated as a vocalist and arranger with Junior Boys, U.S. Girls, Jeremy Dutcher, and others.
PHI NORTH
PHI North offers musicians the opportunity to produce, explore, experiment, and refine their artistic project.
Selected participants are granted a two-week creative retreat at a riverside lodge in the Laurentian mountains featuring exclusive access to a recording studio with in-house engineer and technical assistance.
Specifically oriented for Quebec-based artists, this residency provides a much needed escape from the everyday in order for participants to completely immerse themselves in their artistry.
